The Canobie Corkscrew
RiscIt's Other Projects
This track is now available at CoasterSims: The Canobie Corkscrew
This is a recreation of the Canobie Corkscrew at Canobie Lake Park, in Salem, NH, though it could just as easily be one of several other clones. The Canobie Corkscrew was originally The Chicago Loop located at the "Old Chicago" mall and indoor amusment park which closed in 1980. It was one of the first four ground breaking corkscrew coasters which Arrow introduced in 1975. It has also been located at the Alabama State Fairgrounds as "Corkscrew". By today's standards, it is not an exciting ride. It is not a long ride. It is not a smooth ride. In fact you'll notice some headbanging going in to and coming out of the corkscews. This is not a flaw in the track file - it is an accurate representation of the real thing. It really does that. Ask anyone who has ridden it. Most people will not ride twice in a row due to this (myself included). Some notes on accuracy - I have gone out of my way to make this as accurate as possible. Please consider the following: The supports were painted black for the 2003 season, and old pictures will show grey supports. Turn diameters were calculated from photographs using the known track guage of 4 feet on center for a scale reference. The park has two trains which they swap out every season. This season they are running the red train, so that's the train I chose to use/texture. The theming is meant to give a feel for the area around the ride, and I think it's pretty darn close. The Galaxi coaster on the side is meant for decoration only - please do not nit-pik the supports on it. The lower half of the station is not covered on the back side because it isn't covered in real life - It is not because I forgot to do it. The preferred enviornment is the NoLimits default: "Sunny Day". Thanks first and foremost to James at CanobieFan.com for providing reference photo's as I needed them. Thanks also to Judd97 for being my "Hey look at this - Does this look stupid to you?" guy. And last but not least the "Behind the Fence" thread says I should thank the following for offering particularly useful comments: Torch511, and Viking86. I apologize in advance if I have missed anyone... I'm almost certain I have. Finally, I'd just like to mention that the extra cool stuff in this track package could not have been made (by me anyway) without Tia's NoLimits Construction Kit. It rocks. Really. A lot.
